Jilly’s Jaunt -Champagne ? Yes please.

So here we are back in our favourite country.  We are so lucky France is just a hop across the English Channel.  A 5 hour journey sees us reach the Eurotunnel.  Now our holiday can begin.

40 minutes later we have reached Calais and another 10 minutes we have reached our first hotel.  We always start and finish our holidays at Ibis Calais.  Here the staff are always warm and welcoming.  Just a 5 minute walk from the front door of our hotel and you are in Cite Europe.

A pleasant 3 hours later and we have reached ‘Reims’ – capital of France’s Champagne region and our accommodation for the next three nights La-Grange-aux-Couleurs .

a wonderful shabby-chic gite in the sleepy village of Hermonville just outside the city.

But before we drink some Champagne a visit to some of the major tourist sites is a must.

The Cathedral Notre Dame has to be the most impressive site towering above the city.  Here many of the Kings of France were crowned.

There are many places of interest in the city, The Cathedral of Notre Dame, Palace of Tau and Saint-Remi Abbey are all on the UNESCO heritage list.  After the major sites wander the streets and marvel at many of its Art deco facades.  Take in a visit to one of the many famous Champagne Cellars – Tattinger, Veuve Clicquot, Pommery and Lanson to name just a few.

Of course to finish off our visit to the city we had to enjoy a glass of Champagne outside one of the many street bars.
