Leaving the region of Champagne behind we have now travelled to our caravan which is garaged just 1 mile from Chateau Chenonceau. We are basing ourselves here at Camping Le Moulin Fort for 9 days and intend to have lazy days strolling along the river, visiting local vineyards and short drives out to neighbouring towns.
With a view like this we intend to just relax with a glass of local wine and enjoy the view.
Loches is a very pleasant and easy 19 mile drive from where we are based.
From the 14th century to the beginning of the 16th a number of French kings stayed in Loches and gradually the town expanded.
Wednesday is market day at Loches
We choose to make this day our return visit to this beautiful town known to date back as far as the 6th century. Over many years Loches developed into a fortified town.
The town prospered due to its position on the Paris – Spain trade route a Town Hall, belfry and luxury mansions were built in the lower town during the 16th century.
Despite the changes made over the centuries the town still has much of its medieval heritage.
